There’s nothing like a pontoon sunset cruise on a mid-July summer night. Pontoons are the boat for relaxing and enjoying the lake life. Just like with any boat, pontoons will experience wear and tear to the flooring, seats, cushions, and accessories. It’s inevitable, but the good thing is that pontoons can easily be restored.
A typical pontoon boat restoration consists of deck repair and replacement, adding premium flooring, adding furniture accessories, and deep cleaning the toons. But just like our name states, each boat’s project is custom and unique! Ask anyone on our team, and they’ll tell you that one of their favorite parts about their job is that no two projects are the same. We’re here to take you on a tour of one of those unique projects!
Mr. Moore brought his Manitou Tri-toon to us all the way from New Hampshire for a complete pontoon boat restoration. We installed modern flooring, upgraded nearly everything, and offered a modern-looking tri-toon at a fraction of what a new one would have cost. Take a look!
The Backstory
Mr. Moore’s main issue with the boat was regarding mold. He said that mold had been growing in the carpet and he had to use a power washer to clean it every year. In addition to the mold issue, the seats were showing obvious signs of wear and tear. They were old, cracking, and the existing color scheme made the boat appear dated.
We explained that his 2008 Manitou SHP X-Plode was the perfect candidate for a complete pontoon boat restoration because it was a newer tri-toon with no major damage or leaks in the toons, and it was already equipped with a four-stroke engine. In other words, the existing structure was still in good shape, but it needed a bit of tender love and care in terms of aesthetics and cosmetics.
Mr. Moore liked the flooring options Infinity offered with a blown vinyl backing that was waterproof, meaning it won’t absorb water and contains mold inhibitors.
Throughout the restoration process, he decided to add on Sunbrella seat covers, a new Sony receiver, and new Sony speakers. We were able to recover the old Bimini frame and replace the new boot cover with Sunbrella. Lastly, we replaced the gas shock on the sun pad. What an upgrade!
The Project Specifics
Ultimately, Mr. Moore chose Infinity Woven Vinyl Better Than Teak II flooring in color Cedar Black #8, Wise Premier Seats in color Platinum Spectra Navy Cobalt, Sony Marine Receiver and Speakers, and Sunbrella Seat Covers and Bimini Top in the color navy, and new matching vinyl on the sun pad with new wood.
On the exterior of the pontoon, we replaced the skins in the color navy, with the graphics and MC numbers in the colors bronze and silver. It’s amazing what a few simple updates can do to a boat’s appearance.
Additionally, we refurbished the console, which included: painting the console to match the new seats, painting the windshield, replacing Faria Gauges, replacing Lighted Rocker Switches, adding Dash Covers in the color Carbon Fiber, adding a Schmitt Steering Wheel, and performing a console rewire.
Seeing it Through
The most rewarding part about this project was seeing the end result and appreciating the team effort that was contributed from start to finish. This begins in our quoting stage where we start understanding the customer's needs and style, then providing product suggestions or upgrades, and finishes with our team completing the actual work.
